Evangeline & Michael | NOLA Skyline Event Center Wedding with Lake + City Views

Evangeline and Michael celebrated their wedding at NOLA Skyline Event Center in New Orleans East, surrounded by panoramic lake and city views, family, friends, and lively New Orleans entertainment.


Their celebration began with preparations in separate bridal and groom suites, followed by a ceremony overlooking Lake Pontchartrain and an evening reception featuring live music, wedding painting, Zulu Tramps, and One Shot Brass Band.


As their New Orleans wedding photographer, I documented the day from the quiet getting-ready moments to the high-energy reception, adapting to changing light throughout the venue while preserving natural skin tones and genuine expressions.




Getting Ready at NOLA Skyline Event Center


Evangeline and Michael both prepared on site at NOLA Skyline Event Center, but in separate suites.


Evangeline got ready in the Jazz Suite, which includes a dedicated makeup station and space for bridal preparation. Michael prepared separately in the Blues Suite, allowing both sides of the wedding party to get ready at the venue without crossing paths before the ceremony.


Keeping preparation, ceremony, and reception in the same venue helped reduce travel time and kept the wedding-day timeline moving smoothly.



Ceremony in The Lake Room


Evangeline and Michael held their ceremony in The Lake Room at NOLA Skyline Event Center.


The room provided a bright, modern setting with expansive windows and lake views. As the late-afternoon light changed, the photography moved from softer available light into controlled supplemental lighting when needed to maintain accurate exposure and natural skin tones.




Reception in The Skyline Room


After the ceremony, guests moved into The Skyline Room for the reception.


The reception brought a different look to the gallery, with warmer interior lighting, city views, speeches, dancing, live wedding painting, and a high-energy celebration that eventually moved into a New Orleans-style musical finale.


Photographing the wedding across the Jazz Suite, Blues Suite, Lake Room, and Skyline Room created several distinct visual environments without requiring the couple or guests to leave the venue.




Live Music, Art & a High-Energy New Orleans Exit


Music and live entertainment were woven throughout Evangeline and Michael’s wedding day.


Before the processional began, a live violinist performed during the guest gathering and seating period in The Lake Room, creating an elegant atmosphere as family and friends arrived and settled in for the ceremony.


During the reception, Sarah Bachemin painted live, creating an original wedding portrait while guests watched the artwork develop throughout the evening. A caricature artist was also on site, giving guests another interactive art experience during the reception.


Later, the celebration shifted into a high-energy New Orleans finale with Zulu Tramps and One Shot Brass Band. Music, dancing, movement, and guest reactions filled the space as Evangeline and Michael celebrated with family and friends.


For photography, these moments moved the coverage from structured portraits into documentary storytelling—capturing musicians, artists at work, guest interactions, dancing, expressions, and the energy surrounding the couple as the celebration unfolded.

Photography preserved the individual moments throughout the day, while their wedding film captured the vows, movement, music, and energy of the celebration.





From Window Light to a Darker Evening Reception


One of the photography challenges at this wedding was the transition in lighting throughout the evening.


The Lake Room began with softer daylight coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Pontchartrain. As the evening moved into the Skyline Room, the gallery shifted into warmer interior lighting, reception effects, and darker dance-floor conditions.


Photographing both spaces required adapting to changing lighting conditions while maintaining consistent exposure, natural skin tones, and the atmosphere of each moment.


I used available light when it was flattering and added controlled flash when needed so skin tones, clothing, and venue color stayed consistent as the light changed.


That allowed the finished gallery to feel like one complete wedding story rather than several unrelated lighting situations.
