Judy & Ronald’s Algiers Auditorium Wedding

Judy and Ronald celebrated their wedding on March 19, 2023 at Algiers Auditorium in New Orleans, with the bride getting ready, ceremony, portraits and reception all taking place at the same venue.

The original plan included an outdoor ceremony, but unusually cold weather required a last-minute move indoors. Because the entire wedding was already centered at Algiers Auditorium, the change could be made without adding travel or disrupting the rest of the timeline.

Getting Ready at Algiers Auditorium

Judy prepared for the wedding at Algiers Auditorium, which kept the beginning of the day in the same location as the ceremony and reception.

Having preparation coverage at the venue helped simplify the timeline and allowed the photography schedule to move directly from getting-ready moments into ceremony coverage without requiring transportation between locations.

When Cold Weather Changes the Wedding Plan

New Orleans weddings are usually associated with heat, humidity and rain, but colder weather can create just as many timeline changes.

For Judy and Ronald, frigid conditions made the planned outdoor ceremony impractical, so the ceremony was moved inside Algiers Auditorium.

That kind of change can affect more than where guests sit. It can also change:

• available light

• ceremony backgrounds

• processional positioning

• photographer movement

• family portrait locations

• the amount of room available around the ceremony

The goal in that situation is not to force the original photography plan. It is to quickly evaluate the new environment and adjust the coverage around the conditions that actually exist.

Indoor Wedding Ceremony at Algiers Auditorium

The ceremony took place inside Algiers Auditorium, allowing the couple and their guests to stay comfortable despite the weather outside.

Once the ceremony was moved indoors, the photography approach shifted with it. Camera positioning, lighting and backgrounds were adjusted to work within the room while still documenting the processional, ceremony moments and reactions from family and guests.

After the ceremony, the venue also provided space for family and wedding-party photographs before the reception continued.

Wedding Portraits at the Venue

Keeping the entire wedding at one location meant Judy and Ronald did not have to sacrifice portrait time because of the weather change.

Instead of traveling to another part of the city, we used available areas around Algiers Auditorium for couple and wedding-party portraits.

This is one advantage of choosing a venue with several usable indoor and outdoor spaces. Even when the original plan changes, the photographer can often create variety by working with different backgrounds, angles and lighting conditions within the same property.

Reception at Algiers Auditorium

After the ceremony and portraits, the celebration transitioned into the reception at Algiers Auditorium.

Because the ceremony and reception were held at the same venue, guests did not have to travel between locations, and the wedding timeline remained relatively simple despite the weather adjustment.

The reception included the traditional wedding moments, dancing and entertainment from DJ Bam Bam Belonge.

From a photography standpoint, keeping everything in one location also made it easier to continue documenting the day without losing coverage time to transportation.
