Regina’s Capella University Graduation Photo Shoot | Creative Studio Portraits in New Orleans
Chad Populis Photography · Graduation & Portrait Photography

Graduation is about more than earning a degree. It's a celebration of the hard work, sacrifices and people who helped make the journey possible.
When Regina booked her Capella University graduation photo shoot, she came prepared with several outfits and creative concepts. She wanted traditional graduation portraits, sophisticated studio photography and a few personalized images that would tell her story.
We planned a studio session with multiple backdrops, creative lighting, digital composites and a confetti-filled finale.

Planning your own graduation portraits? Your session can include much more than traditional cap-and-gown photos. My New Orleans portrait photography sessions can incorporate multiple outfits, studio lighting, personalized concepts and creative editing to build a gallery around your accomplishment.
Classic Graduation Portraits with a Personal Touch
We started with a warm brown backdrop, Regina's Capella University sweatshirt and her graduation cap and tassel. This first look gave us a relaxed way to celebrate her school before moving into more formal portraits.
From there, we created a custom double-exposure image featuring Regina seated inside the silhouette of her graduation cap. It was one of the creative concepts she brought to the session and an opportunity to turn a traditional graduation accessory into something more artistic.
For her next look, Regina changed into a brown pantsuit against a clean white backdrop. We photographed a seated portrait designed to be incorporated into a custom diploma overlay, connecting her professional style with her academic achievement.
Editorial Portraits, Dramatic Lighting and a Meaningful Tribute
Regina's black pantsuit gave us an opportunity to change the mood completely.
Against a dark gray backdrop, I introduced kicker lighting to create separation and highlight the contours of her outfit. The result was a more dramatic, editorial look that could stand on its own beyond her graduation announcement.
We also photographed Regina in her traditional cap and gown against a white background, creating the classic graduation portraits that never go out of style.
One of the most meaningful concepts of the session was a tribute to her late father.
Regina wanted to include him in her graduation photographs, so we planned a creative composite featuring her in her black pantsuit against a white background, with her father's image incorporated into a cloud scene.
It was a way to honor someone important to her while celebrating her accomplishment.

A Red Sequin Dress and a Confetti-Filled Finale
For the final outfit, Regina changed into a red sequin dress and brought her graduation cap back into the photographs.
Using a white backdrop and warm kicker lighting, we created a glamorous set of portraits that contrasted with the darker editorial images from earlier in the session.
The red sequins added color and texture, while the lighting gave the photographs a polished, celebratory look.
And what better way to finish a graduation photo shoot than with a confetti bomb?
We ended the session with a burst of confetti, capturing the energy and excitement of completing such an important milestone.
